Diet informationThe South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet plan started by Cardiologist arthur agatston which encourages that dieters should be eating "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston developed this diet for people who have cardiac problems, based on his detailed analysis of scientific research on other nutritional studies. "good" foods include, veal cutlets, turkey breast, prawns, low or fat free cheeses, pistachio nuts, lowfat yoghurt and some vegatables, like artichokes, celery and mushrooms. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index nutrition and weight loss system is based around the gi (or glycaemic index), a list of types of food and a score representing the ease that the carbohydrates of the food gets changed to sugar in the dieters bloodstream. The theory is that slow release types of food (ie with a low Glycaemic score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help you to cut down on food without feeling hungry. It is also very good for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI foods are helpful in managing surges in blood glucose levels. The Atkins’ Diet Although it originated back in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still widely used today. Although not accepted by all scientists, it claims to allow weight reduction whilst still eating foods that are normally considered bad for diets, such as fatty meat and hard cheeses. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that must be avoided. It is often referred to as a low carb/high protein, nutrition and weightloss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The theory of the atkins diet is that if we eat less carbohydrates, our bodies will use the fat we have stored and we will achieve weight loss |
