Types of dietThe Glycaemic Index Diet The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weightloss system is reliant on the gi (or glycaemic index), a list showing food types and a score representing the speed with which the energy of the food gets converted to sugar in your bloodstream. The theory is that slow release food types (ie those with a low Gi score), keep you feeling full longer and help you to cut down on food without feeling you are always hungry. It's also extremeley effective for diabetics, as the low GI food types are beneficial in preventing increases in blood glucose secretion. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system primarily created by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet isn’t particularly a fat reduction diet, however many zone diet followers believe that they lose weight by following the zone diet. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you can gain control of the amount of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a consequence puts the body in a balanced state that is a lot more healthful than it normally is, known as the 'zone'. Sears alleges that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is much more efficient and, because of this, doesn't need to convert surplus energy to fat. The most important technique of the zone system is to maintain the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure you get increased levels of Omega 3 fish oils. The Atkins’ Diet Originating way back in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it claims to allow fat reduction but still allows you to eat many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, eg beef and eggs. With this diet you eat protein and fat, it is the carbs that must be avoided. It is referred to as a low carb/high protein, nutrition system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The logic behind the atkins diet is that if we reduce your consumption of carbs, our bodies will burn up the fat we have stored and we will lose weight |
